Oh yeah? Why are there so many red triangles on your screen? Whos dropping the uplinks behind enemy lines? Who's holding off 3+ guys in full proto with a rifle just so you can spawn safely? Who's sniping turret gunners and vehicle gunners so you can advance safely? That's me.
If you're camping in a mountain with a rifle, good for you. But I'm on the frontlines with my fellow logistics and Assaults fending off attackers or poppin' defenders in the face.
All about how you play the game, man. |

That's why the suit is called scout. Really they're behind enemy lines. There is no sniper suit. A real sniper is someone who hunts snipes. People who camp in mountains are not snipers, and really they aren't scouts. They're just... Marksmen? And even then they're only marksmen if they can actually hit something.
Hunting birds on this game wouldn't be fun, nor do I think their would be snipes on an uninhabitable planet. |

All about how you play the game, man. Cool. Anyway, this is a thread about snipers.
Cool. Anyway, look up the definition of a sniper. Actually, I'll do it for you.
The original meaning of the word "sniper" has been a long documented word dating back pre-19th century.
A sniper is one who kills the snipe or snipes, defined below.
a. Any of various long-billed shore birds of the genus Gallinago or Capella, related to the woodcocks and sandpipers, especially the common, widely distributed species G. gallinago or C. gallinago. b. Any of various similar or related birds.
The second is the more commonly used meaning, but not the correct usage of sniper.
A sniper is a highly trained marksman who operates in one- to two-man teams which maintain close visual contact with the enemy and engages targets from concealed positions or physical distances exceeding the detection capabilities of the enemy personnel, without being detected. These sniper teams operate independently, with little combat asset support from their parent units. Snipers typically have highly selective and specialized training and use high-precision rifles and optics, and often have sophisticated communication assets to feed valuable combat information back to their units. In addition to marksmanship, military snipers are trained in camouflage, field craft, infiltration, reconnaissance and observation. Snipers are especially effective when deployed within the terrain of urban warfare, or jungle warfare.
This is different from what we have in game, which is the Scout.
1. To spy on or explore carefully in order to obtain information; reconnoiter.
Even this is wrongly named. What the Scout drop suit should actually be called is a:
Infantry Scout: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/army/a/infantryscout.htm
You would think that it would be a:
Scout Sniper. (MOS 0317, formerly 8541) is a secondary MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) designator of U.S. Marine Corps infantrymen and reconnaissance Marines that have successfully graduated from a USMC Scout Sniper School. Scout Snipers provide close reconnaissance and surveillance to the infantry battalion. By doctrine, a Scout Sniper is a Marine highly skilled in field craft and marksmanship who delivers long range precision fire on selected targets from concealed positions in support of combat operations. These soldiers ARE recon, but their primary focus is being a marksman. From beyond a range of the maps in DUST 514 are currently.
So the scout drop suit is falsely named and should be an: Infantry Scout. Because we have a shorter range than a Sniper and a Scout Sniper. At least until the maps get bigger. There is no Sniper class in this game. OP is crazy as hell. |

When we talk about snipers we're referring to people who are sitting somewhere shooting people with a sniper rifle. It's great that you took all that time to write that post up, but that's not relevant to this thread. If you're dropping uplinks all over the place and otherwise "on the frontlines with my fellow logistics and assaults" then that's not what this thread is about. Although if you think assault or logistics roles aren't being adequately rewarded you're certainly welcome to make your own thread about it.
What you're talking about is shooting a long billed bird. Now unless I am sadly mistaken, there are no freakin' birds in the game. It's not a sniper rifle. It's a railgun. Again, you are right. Apparently this thread is about killing snipes, but I haven't seen the bird mentioned once. Did I say assault or logistics roles aren't being adequately rewarded?
So if this thread is about snipers, it has been massively derailed and exploded by a nuke.
Drugs are bad, kids.
